Activity Overview
A 64-year-old female patient presents to your virtual office with psoriasis on her feet. You—in consultation with Jeffrey Weinberg, MD of St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center—are managing her care. Among the issues you must consider are reports of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy associated with efalizumab treatment, the recent withdrawal of efalizumb from the US market, and the effects of hand and foot psoriasis on quality of life. "Consult" with Dr. Weinberg and your colleagues as you consider treatment options for this patient. This activity follows the progression of this case over several months, solicits your input on key aspects of the case, and presents treatment recommendations provided by other clinicians that have "consulted" on this case.

Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of dermatologists and other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with psoriasis.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Formulate a practical plan for managing moderate to severe psoriasis, taking into consideration complex patient characteristics
  • Recognize long-term safety issues associated with biologic agents used to treat psoriasis
