Activity Overview
A 30-year-old female patient presents to your virtual office with severe, recalcitrant psoriasis and joint pain. Among the issues that you need to consider are the patient’s pregnancy and the failure of previous therapy with a biologic agent. You—in consultation with Neil Korman, MD, PhD, and Kristine Kucera, DHS, MPAS, PA-C—are managing her care. “Consult” with our clinicians and your colleagues as you consider treatment options for this complex case. This activity follows the progression of the case, solicits your clinical input on key aspects of treatment, and presents recommendations provided by other clinicians that have “consulted” on this case.
Target Audience
This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of dermatologists, dermatology residents and fellows, dermatology nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and other health care professionals involved in the care of patients with moderate to severe psoriasis.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Define the risks and benefits of traditional and biologic systemic agents used to treat psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis
- Develop strategies to manage patients who experience primary failure with an anti–tumor necrosis factor inhibitor
- Formulate a treatment plan that can be used in a pregnant or breastfeeding patient with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis
