CME-Certified Meeting Report
Edited by: Kenneth B. Gordon, MD

The American Academy of Dermatology held its 66th Annual Meeting February 1–5, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. A variety of posters that focused on biologic agents used to treat psoriasis were presented, covering such topics as new agents in development, long-term efficacy, and the use of biologic agents in difficult-to-treat patients. In addition, the meeting featured presentations on other topics relating to psoriasis, such as quality-of-life issues, pathophysiology, and comorbidities. This article features highlights from posters presented at the meeting along with insights by Dr. Kenneth B. Gordon on the clinical implications of these studies.

Perspectives on Biologic Agents and Psoriasis: Update From the American Academy of Dermatology's Summer Academy Meeting
CME-Certified Meeting Report
Edited by: Neil J. Korman, MD, PhD

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) held its 2007 Summer Academy Meeting in Manhattan on August 1–5. The event featured a variety of posters relating to psoriasis research, the most relevant of which have been chosen for review in this activity. Topics of importance included efficacy and safety updates on individual biologics, combination therapy using biologics, the influence of biologic therapy on quality-of-life measures, and newly released clinical efficacy data on an IL-12/23 antibody. In addition, Neil J. Korman, MD, PhD, Professor of Dermatology and Clinical Director of the Murdough Family Center for Psoriasis at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, provides commentary on specific posters or groups of posters in order to better define the clinical importance of the presented research data. The purpose of this activity is to provide physicians who were unable to attend the 2007 Summer Academy meeting a summary of the most important poster presentations focusing on psoriasis.

Biologic Agents and Psoriasis: Highlights From the 65th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology
CME-Certified Meeting Report
Edited by: Alan Menter, MD

Psoriasis was the topic of more than 110 posters presented at the 65th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology. Approximately 40 presentations focused on biologic agents used to treat psoriasis. Updates on efficacy and safety, as well as interim analysis of pivotal clinical trial data, were the subjects of several posters. Data examining the use of biologic agents in children, pregnant women, and difficult-to-treat cases were also presented. Meeting highlights presented in this report underscore the fact that although biologics are an accepted part of the therapeutic armamentarium for psoriasis, clinicians are still learning how to best manage their use in patients with moderate to severe disease.

Highlights of Posters From a Recent Dermatology Meeting in San Francisco
By Jennifer C. Cather, MD
Dr. Jennifer C. Cather reviews 36 posters that presented new data concerning psoriasis and the use of biologics and discusses them by product and by topic category within each product. With the experience gained over the past 3 years with the three biologic agents already available for the treatment of psoriasis, as well as three more agents in clinical investigation, a number of posters now focus on issues that have evolved, such as long-term efficacy, overall safety, relative costs, which agent to start with, and how to maximize efficacy.
